Good but don't rely on the clock

This is a nice radio CD player with good sound quality for the price / size. There are some good useful features too including two USB sockets and Bluetooth. The Clock however loses around 10 minutes a day if the DAB radio is not used. The time will correct itself as soon as the DAB radio is switched on. This is not a major problem for me and if using the alarm function just set it for 5 - 10 minutes earlier than the time you need.Read full review

Promising, but doesn't quite deliver...

To be fair, I only bought this to use as a bedroom music player, and the sound quality, whilst not exactly hi-fi, is quite pleasant - it even has some bass! However, it has some major flaws and shortcomings which prevent an unqualified recommendation. First off, the clock is useless, losing about 15 minutes a day, which negates any possibility of the unit actually being used as a clock radio, which kind of defeats the object. Surely this could be fixed quite easily? The only way to correct the time (without going the long-winded 'manual' route) is to select DAB and let the clock sync itself to the radio station time. I have been doing this about 4 times a day, but it's a pain asI don't listen to the radio at all. On the plus side, build quality is quite good, being solid and quite heavy, the remote handset is fine (I didn't find it's small size to be a problem, as others have reported), but has one glaring omission; there is no 'Mute' button, which seems like a schoolboy error to me. The two USB ports are useful for charging phones and tablets etc., but it's a shame they can't be used to plug in a USB pen drive/hard drive to actually play music files, which again, seems like a huge omission. Lastly, the addition of wi-fi and/or LAN connections would make it much more useful overall; hopefully they might address these omissions in future models. Overall, quite good value for the price I paid, but definitely not worth the full asking price of about £150.Read full review

Absolute piece of junk

This is possibly the worst product of it's kind that I have had the misfortune to purchase.
Although it contains, on the face of it, all of the features one would expect, none of them seem to work as they should.
Example number one. This is the third DAB radio I have had situated in the very same location, but it has by far the worst reception.
Upon trying to manipulate the aerial to improve the reception, it snapped clean off!

The CD player has a tendency to randomly make a rattling sound that sounds like a helicopter hovering overhead...this obviously tends to detract from attempting to listen to any music at less than maximum volume.

And then there's the "clock". It fails to keep time! Possibly due to the inadequate DAB signal, as mentioned previously, it needs to be continually reset by turning on a DAB channel, whereapon it resets itself. It then loses about 5 to ten minutes overnight, which obviously makes the alarm feature totally useless.

The display has four brightness settings. It can be set at Very bright, Slightly less bright, Bright, and Off. The lowest level is far to bright to use as a bedside machine for example.

Overall, I am very disappointed with the quality of this product, and I will in future avoid this particular brand like the plague.

Undecided so far

This device is good value for money but I find it difficult to use, it's all there but the remote is very small and one has to have the instructions book on hand to find where everything is as it's hard to memorise without it. I also find it frustrating that the clock only stays accurate in DAB mode, in FM it loses time so is unreliable, very frustrating. However overall it is good value and the sound is good for a inexpensive system.Read full review

You get what you pay for

As I wanted an inexpensive DAB radio for my games room, this seemed ideal as it also plays CD's. Easily set up and compact, first impressions were good. Sound quality on DAB and FM is absolutely fine. However, when playing CD's the CD transport is fairly audible meaning you have to turn the volume up quite high to overcome this. Also, the digital clock only keeps good time when you are on a DAB station. Any other function and the clock goes slow.
All in all, this system is OK but with some flaws.
For less than £50 I am fairly happy with it but wish it were better.

1st DAB radio/cd

This is the 1st DAB radio I have bought and although the sound quality is really good once tuned in, some days it doesn't quite tune properly and is very garbled. I don't know if this because of bad weather. The Cd is excellent and the option to set the equaliser as I want it helps get the best sound. All in all a great music centre.

Great features and more

Audio quality is very good for an entry level DAB Radio CD player and it has loads of functions that allow external input, Bass and Treble adjustment just to name a few. Blue Tooth allows connection of any Blue Tooth enabled devices. A good unit that looks good.Read full review
