A blast from the past that creates some quality images even at 6 MP.

This DSLR is a blast from the past and at 6 Mega Pixels I wasn't expecting much. I don't normaly use Nikon DSLRs, only Canon but I fancied trying a Nikon one. I have the Nikon Coolpix P600 and love it.

The D50 is easy to use, I like the top info LCD and how quickly you can change settings by pressing a button and turning the command wheel.

It has the ability to use lenses with or without the focus motor built into them as the body has a motor for focusing, and it focuses fairly quickly.

The viewfinder is bright and clear showing only the data that is important to the photograph you are taking. The camera is light and fits in my hand like a glove.

There are a couple of things that I don't like about it and one is that the button used for back focusing requires me to stretch my finger over to it, and the otherone is that it only saves a Basic quality JPEG when you are saving images as RAW files as well, a choice would have been better but I guess it is because the camera only takes 1GB SD cards, it won't accept anything higher than 2GB.

I already have D50 and it is so good I bought another because they don't make them anymore and the one I just bought has a lower shutter count than m

Easy to use, even on auto settings the pictures are excellent quality and with all the many lenses available for the D50 it's win win. I have two D50's!

Still better than many later digital SLRs

Primarily, the D50 has an amazing focusing ability that far exceeds even the much later Canon 100D, for instance, and pictures are clear and in focus virtually 100% of the time.

The camera is also far simpler to use than many more modern Digital SLRs. The relatively low pixel count (6MP) means each pixel is large enough to capture a good amount of light, resulting in a crisp and noise-free image. The same can't be said of many higher mega-pixel count cameras today.

It's size is good, it's weight is good. Everything is good. That's why I bought one after foolishly given my original away thinking "newer is better" some years ago.

Used Nikon D50 Camera Body

I'm very pleased with my new toy, my Nikon D50. I had bought 2 digital conventional cameras, but they had limitations that made me lose nice pictures. That is why I decided to move for a professional one, and because I didn't have money to buy a new one (£600, circa) I got a used one (£125).
What I love of my new camera is the capacity to take pictures and adjust the light and shot parameters easily, to focus manually or automatically and the capacity of change the lens if I want it. I just bought the camera body, and I got the lens from an old Nikon film camera. Now I'm planning to buy another lens.
The only thing that I don't like about the Nikon D50 is that it doesn't allow to watch the image to be taken in the screen, it exclusively allows to watch the image by the viewfinder, while most conventional digital cameras allow it. Furthermore, it is heavier than a regular camera, but it's really worth it!!

The D50 is a brilliant Digital SLR and you will not be sorry

This is very good value for the money that you can get them for today, I have had a D50 from the day it came out. Bought another one only a couple of months ago, as I had a accident with the camera and they do not bounce very well, I broke the standard lens and the camera I was not sure about. However as it turned out the lens was gone, I did a last minute offer of one on ebay really only for the lenses that came with it, and got a great deal. Now my brother took one from me and I as I had such a good experience with the D50 on ebay, I bought a D80 as well, I will not part with my D50, but the D80 will get the use too. Now I have two cameras always ready for THAT shot.

I will not hesitate to recommend the D50, yes it has been superseded by cameras with more pixels but my best photographs are made with the D50, Great Quality clear shots, camera is easy to use, yet has a good few advanced programs for the photographer that wants a wee bit more.

A Great first Digital camera for a serious photographer, do make sure you get some nice lenses with it but most come as a set, 18 - 55 and 55 - 200 (nikon Nikkor lenses came with sets of the D50. However a great set to get is 18-70 and 70-300 nikon nikkor if the budget stretches to it) Investigate as the D 50 can be used with most lenses.

Best out of the Nikon consumer DSLR's

I have used and/or own, all the Nikon consumer DSLR range since they came out. Image capture quality on the D50 is the best by far. More megapixels does not mean more quality, the D50 is all you need really and the reliability is excellent.Read full review...

Nikon D50 DSLR Camera

Despite the fact that this model accepts SD memory cards no higher than 2GBs, I still rate the D50 as one of the most reliable cameras on the market in terms of the image quality and performance. It has never let me down in the eleven years that I've owned one.Read full review...

Awsomely good value slr and works in AF with lenses without a motor!

This is an old model now but if you can find a good used one then its a great camera for your first slr. Has the built in motor so All nikon lenses fit and auto focus with this camera.
Good grip and nice and compact.
I got one off ebay for 97 quid and i use it all the time and for my third backup.
cheers
