Buy one on E-bay if you can find it

Decided to seek this out after seeing many reviews singing it's praises. Though released over 10 years ago I prefer this to later iterations due to the excellent picture quality. I have large hands, but still find the small camera reasonably easy to handle. The lens is extremely fast and so great for low light. Only real downside for me is lack of a viewfinder - having used one on all my other cameras it's very hard to live without for me and I've now purchased (the relatively expensive) Panasonic viewfinder that attaches to the flash socket. Have not tested yet, but sure this will make a big improvement, both in bright sunlight and for bracing the camera when focussing and shooting). The picture quality is amazing for such a small compact camera.Read full review

Versatile

My main dislike for the LX7 is a limited zoom capacity.
Apart from this niggle the images are very good, the settings are labyrinthine and you can point shoot and print or go RAW and squeeze the life out of your snaps.
Overall not a beginners camera, but more an enthusiasts.
I have concluded that I will grow into this but fast realised that an eye level finder was more necessary than just a foible, so managed to get a bargain on eBay.
Currently I am getting the most amazing shots of close ups, from one and two centimetres away.

Compact with quality

The Lumix LX7 is a very compact, high quality digital camera that remains competitive in 2022. The lens is very sharp and has a reasonable zoom range, and the f1.4 maximum aperture is remarkable.
Image quality is good if you don't stretch the ISO speed rating too far.
Plenty of manual controls if you wish to use them and RAW recording is also present - or switch to Program mode and use it as a simple point-and-shoot.
Solid construction. Third party batteries are easy to find.

A type of camera that is not as popular nowadays because of the rise in quality of smartphone cameras, but the LX7 is a rewarding camera for those who want something more traditional and more involving.

Panasonic LX7

This is a great camera. I have tested it out with portrait shots as well as some shots inside the local church. Both came out great. Predictably good on auto but fantastic when you learn how to use the camera properly.

This is the best compact camera I have ever had and getting some shots comparable to my D SLR which I never really used as it just got left at home, being too big to lug around all the time. Now I have a camera which produces high quality results and sits in my laptop bag. That makes it the best camera in the world as it is the one I have with me!

I did make another purchase which was a book dedicated to this camera called; Photographers Guide to the Panasonic LX7 by Alexander S White. It goes into great detail about every possible function of the camera and explains the location and operation of all the camera settings. This book made getting to know my camera easier as the so called manual for this camera is pathetic.

If you are looking for a compact camera with full manual control and a VERY bright lens then buy this or pay a LOT more.

My new LX7..

....I bought it to replace my digital SLR which I had to carry around in a backpack with all its lenses...the LX7 fits within the pockets of my walking "hoodie" and is always ready for use after I fitted an "auto" lens cap and a wrist strap also purchased from eBay .The picture quality is really excellent...and the lens is super fast....the in camera software makes shooting possible in many styles but if you want total manual control it is there...the Leica lens is superb and I have found that although the zoom is obviously not up to my 75mm x 300mm Canon lens I very rarely used it at full length anyway.....the LX7 is just waht I wanted...a replacxement for my digital SLR camera in a small and instantly manageable form.Read full review

A brilliant camera

Its a brilliant camera - especially for shooting bright pictures in low light conditions. Since I bought one (this is my second) I haven't thought once about using my SLR.

Good pics

Very happy with the quality of the photos this takes. The camera is light to carry and has plenty of options for the more experienced photographer.

Excellent camera

The camera is small compact and has all the control you need to take top class photos. The f1.4 Leica lens is staggering and produces such detail it puts mobile phone photos to shame.
