Good features and easy to use.

Good features and easy to use, BUT it would be nice to have a screen that lights up as sometimes it is hard to see or you have to get it at just the right angle to view.

Disappointing and expensive.

I bought this device for crosswords and because it has a larger screen in the lid. However, it is a most disappointing, and expensive, substitute for the much better Sharp PW-E300/500 (regrettably now out of production).
1. The ‘concise’ dictionary/thesaurus/encyclopaedia are far too small to be useful. Even I have a larger vocabulary than they. Modern memories can and should cope with much more comprehensive versions.
2. Whilst the Sharp device does not have an encyclopaedia, this one is inadequate.
3. The screen layout is cluttered and the background graphics are distracting and unnecessary. A clear screen would be better.
4. The screen is also dark and difficult to read in some light conditions. A backlight is needed.
5. The ‘page scroll’ function is too complicated, requiring both hands (shift + down arrow on opposite sides of the device) – it needs a single button
6. A score of 2 / 5 is the most I can give it.

Seiko ER8100

Having managed to spill water on (and ruin) my Seiko ER8000, I thought an "upgrade" to the ER8100 was in order. Although this is a very good piece of kit, I did prefer my old m/c as when a name, word, or abbreviation was typed in I could navigate between search areas without having to re-type. The ER8100 will only "jump" to the dictionary, all other searches require a fresh input.Read full review

Seiko ER8100

This product was a replacement for an earlier model. This model is not an improvement on the old model. There are fewer words and the content is less helpful. The product itself works well it may simply be that the update content on he product is lacking. I we could have purchased the old model which has served us well over the years we would have bought one.Read full review

Buy this electronic brain, it's a no brainer

Great item for any crossword fanatic or information junkie. Has plenty of features and a wealth of information at your fingertips. Seems to be as good as the old 9000 range but more compact.

Excellent replacement for very well used old one. Faster and easier to use than Google or crossword apps.
