Still a great model a decade later.
I had this exact model of mp3 player for years before the battery finally gave out and would no longer charge. Unfortunately, mp3 players fell out of fashion during that time, and the new ones didn't have speakers, playlist functions, hold buttons, or whatever else I found useful that this model all happened to have. So, after years of looking, I bought the same type again. I wanted a player just for music, since it takes up so much space on a phone, and this is still the perfect player for me!Read full review

Better than expected
This is my third Sony MP3 player (over ten years) and it arrived in excellent condition. My old one is completely full of my favorite books and music, so I needed a new one.
This one also works great, with very few minor scratches on the screen. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best MP3 player for listening to books and music. It's light, compact, simple to use, and has my favorite feature, a sleep timer!Read full review

Great personal device for lots of music playback.
It is basically as easy to use as can be and it has nice features with great sound. No software downloads are really necessary to use this walkman.

Too bad they don't make one like this any more.
I use this recorder for a particular use, playback of bird calls. It is excellent for that, the speakers are loud enough in most cases that I don't need an external speaker and the sound quality is plenty good enough. I also own 2 544's but the battery finally died in one. But that's after about 8 years or so of use. There are a couple of minor things in the software I would change, but that may be because of my specific use.Read full review

Drag and Drop Music in Windows Explorer
easy to use and has long battery life compared to iPod.
Cannot turn up volume as much as iPod and need one of the lower ohm headsets.
Works great with many Sony Studio headsets as well as their economical headsets.
I also use it with Bose AE2Read full review

Versatile mp3 player for audio, video, pictures, built-in speaker, audio/FM recording
I consider this model the last of the really versatile Sony mp3 players in this price range. It not only plays music but also video and jpegs (and with a decent-sized screen to boot). It has a built-in speaker for listening without headphones (like an old school transistor radio!). Plus, you can record live audio and from the built-in FM radio. My original one lasted for a good six years under continuous use before the battery life got too short (I still use it in the car where it's powered by the car battery via USB). If you can find the Sony NWZ S545 16 MB NOS or refurbished, GO FOR IT! Be sure to let the battery run out completely before recharging to help delay the battery-memory issue.Read full review

It's okay, would be better if it had factory stated battery life!
To say it was better than I expected is misleading, I had no expectations since the owner didn't even know if it worked!
