a delightful film of Arthur Ransome's classic tale of children sailing in the Lake District. the film sticks very closely to the original story, and the Lakeland scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Virginia McKenna is excellent as the mother who isn't bothered by her children going off to camp on an island miles away in the middle of a deep lake.
