Functions well in spite of bad build quality and design
The plastic casing is poor and needs to be grappled with for battery changes. This causes various circuit boards and switchgear to fall out which then need some dexterity to get everything back to a working item.
Once powered, the sensitivity is good and it is small and light enough to crawl along a cable trunk.
Works well with the pockethernet device, which was my reason for buying it.Read full review

Cable tracer
Overall it works but only on a single tone, it’s supposed to be switchable to dual tone by the internal switch but it makes no difference which way the switch is! Maybe just a fault but for the cost I couldn’t be bothered to send it back!Read full review

Great for the price
Great product for the price. I had lost a cable in the ceiling of a new build and thought i would try this to see if I could find it using the tone facility. Within 30 minutes I had found the missing cable end. It did what I needed at a very low cost compared to some better quality products.
I think I was lucky that the cable end was quite close to the plasterboard ceiling. The further the cable is away the less tone change and therefore the harder to detect. The product quality is not great but for the price it's more than adequate.Read full review

A useful device
The number of electricians and service engineers who don't have this useful device in their bags amazes me it's the second one in 20 years I've owned not required often but when you do invaluable for tracing cablesRead full review

tester
The product is of reasonable quality and it works fine , think the instruction could be a lot clearer although you can find more information on the internet.

Good for the price
It's great if your starting out and saving to buy a more substantial bit of kit. If testing CAT5+ cable then you'll need to put an RJ45 barrel on the end of the toner cable.

Not very good
Thought I’d try it out as it was cheap but turns out they are cheap because they are not very good.
Can’t detect a cable even if your right on top of it.
Don’t bother spend more on a better version.Read full review

Great time saver.
Moved to new home with LOTS of data and audio cables. Finding which goes where is a breeze with this tester.

It gives an idea of the cable yr tracing
It’s ok in that there is signal of a sort when tracing a cable but does not give much of a different signal when touching the coopers of that cable. That is to say not much different between cooper and insulation of the cable.Read full review

Very basic, dull tone
Very basic, I used it to try and find spotlights in a ceiling where the drawing had been lost, helped a bit and I got the job done, but the tone needs to be louder when your near the cable!
