Enthralling and entertaining
As the first of Mary Wesley's novels this one sets the tone for all the ones following, by introducing characters that appear again in later books. The story is a very good read about a middle class family and each person has a well-defined personality. By the end of the book you feel you knw these people intimately and want to know more about what happens to them.
