A lovely read.

It is set in the late 1950s, a more innocent time and the lovely librarian described the area so well that I could picture it all. !! I loved her organising part of the library and the encouragement she showed to the children. A 'Feel Good' Book for me.
Sally Vickers is a great author and describes the settings in all her books so very well.

Slightly underwhelming

The writing was rather clunky: not convinced by the dialogue. I wondered if the idea had come first, and then the characters were made to fit. /for me they did not come fully to life. I felt she was less able to conjure up this post war era than the subjects she has dealt with from longer ago. But it was still a pleasant read, with some interesting ideas. Read full review

A good bed-time read.....

A good read; not as complex as Miss Garnet's Angel.
