Magnetic cartridge pre-amp
Well made and excellent value when considering that it includes a switch-mode power-
supply. The RIAA response is pretty good and current drawn from the optional PP3
battery supply is less than a milliamp. However, on the negative side, because it is a
simple transistor circuit, there is no power-supply noise rejection and as a result one
will hear the buzz from the mains power-supply during quiet recorded passages.
But as long as one remembers to turn off the unit after use when operating off battery,
noise should not be much of a problem.Read full review

No Grounding.
This preamp has no grounding screw, so I attached it to one of the screws available and it didn’t negate the loud humming sound even though I was told if the case is metal it should be fine, it was not. Anyway I found a DIY fix of hooking the the grounding wire under the lid in between the RCA input cables as showing in the photos attached and it sorted it.Read full review

Works OK on battery power
This little preamp works fine when using a battery to power it. The mains power supply provided is unusable, it creates a very annoying hum which can be heard over anything but very loud music.
>For the price, if you are prepared to run it on a battery buy it. If a mains power supply is essential, then this unit is not for you, unless you are prepared to invest in a better power supply.Read full review

Good but needs playing with for best results.
the power supply makes it buzz if you use a battery that eradicates that problem. The unit PCB ground needs connecting to the case I soldered a bras tab from the ground track to the case this makes it super quiet but I wanted a switched power source. Now hears my hack. the unit has 4 2SC1815L transistors which will handle up to 50v I use a (NAD C 320 BEE) now on the back panel it has a 12v switched power jack socket I have connected the preamp to this its totally silent dose not buz or even hiss it switches the preamp on and off with the amp so it can be tucked away out of sight and it doesn't need twiddling with. It sounds awesome I mean really good. I recommend this unit but it does need small tweaks to make it from OK to excellent. I like the fact its built using discrete components and not ICs. Its like old-school electronics my whole system now from the turntable to the speakers is transistors no ICs.Read full review

Good value.
I am very pleased with the Pre - Amp I did not have the problems listed by other reviewers, it worked “out of the box”.
If you are having problems Google ” How to get rid of hum and eliminate other noises from your audio”
I powered everything from one extension lead.Read full review

Good value Preamp.
For the price, this is a pretty good pre-amp and it does what it is intended for. It is easy to install, and it works fine. There is no 'ground' connection, so there is a little hum at louder volumes, but otherwise fine.Read full review

Neat little box which overcomes the problem that manufactures no longer support a phono input.
This works well and is just big enough to handle and take phono plugs and it performs its function perfectly. I found it did produce a sort of buzz/hum which I initially mistook for turntable rumble but it was permanent. It obviously came from the power unit supplied as it was totally quiet with the battery.I checked with an oscilloscope and there was a residual switching pulse from the supply and checked the current consumption at 0.2 ma. I cut the print from the plug to the switch and used a 470 ohm resistor and .47uf ceramic capacitor as a filter and it all went quiet still leaving over 8 volts for the device to work. Other solutions are possible such as using a different supply and/or an additional voltage stabiliser but a battery should provide several hundred hours of use if switched off when not in use. It's a pity these components were not originally fitted but still a great buy.Read full review

The pre- amp itself is fine but the power supply supplied causes humming and buzzing. ok with batteries
the Power supply supplied causes the pre-amp to hum and buzz. used with a battery it works fine. its a pity as i wanted to use it long term and using batteries is no use to me !!

A cheap useful pre amp, but probably not for the Hi Fi specialists. it suits my purpose for playing old 45's on vinyl.
There is a faint hum in quiet interludes, ie between 45's, but not noticeable during playing music (at the level i play it at).

works a treat, helped out of a jam
a little bit of a buzz from it, but cannot be heard above the music. Really good product, and does the job really well. Easy to set up and use.
