Modification may be necessary
On a thin walled barrel (like a Mossberg 500), you are going to have to file down about half the length of the threaded post. Any less, and it will either not index correctly to the bottom of the top of the barrel, or will stick through into the bore and cause accuracy issues or possibly much more dangerous problems. That being said, running it across a metal file, then testing it, removing more, testing it again, etc..and finally installation with loc-tite has worked very well. It is tight even without the loc-tite, sitting on the barrel properly all the way down, and not extending into the bore. For a 590 with a thicker barrel wall, this may not be necessary at all. Still an incredible sight, at an incredible price. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.Read full review

Not what I expected
The Meprolight Tru-Dot night sight is not what I thought it would be. It is not nearly as bright as I thought it would be. Even in the dark it is hard to see. It requires fitting as when it is installed, the night sight faces forward. You have to do quite a bit of filing on the bottom of the sight to be able to get it to make that last half turn to be positioned correctly. I do like the size of it for a front sight compared to the factory bead sight. It is made of quality steel & seems to be very tough. You will also have to file down the threaded post because it protrudes into the barrel. I kept it on the gun because I like the height of the sight. It is easier to acquire while aiming. Just wish the tritium was brighter. I didn’t know what to expect since I never used one before.Read full review

A true "meh..."
I purchased a version for my Mossberg 500 with an 18.5" smooth barrel to serve a HD purpose. I didn't have confidence in a simple fiber optic for night applications and was swayed by the tritium description of the Meprolight. The price was good considering it was only slightly more expensive than a fiber optic. When I received it, I was concerned how small it was. I heard complaints that it was hard to see out on the end of a barrel if you had issues with vision. I have pretty good eyesight but was still disappointed with how small and faint the dot was. In addition to this, it was not a simple install. It might just be the threading on my barrel, but when screwed in tight it was about 90 degrees off center. Aligning it straight down the barrel it was very loose. I applied some blue lock tight to hold it in place and hoping there is enough catch to keep it there. I'll know more after I've put it through its paces, but kinda wishing I had sprung for the XS Sights Big Dot tritium that would have gone over the stock brass bead. All said, I don't regret purchasing it considering the price, but not really happy with it at the same time.Read full review

Works fine, but shorter than I'd hoped.
The night sight front dot glows just fine and installation was quick and easy. But this is shorter than I had expected. This would work perfectly for a longer straight ribbed shotgun barrel. But on a shorter defensive barrel that tapers down a bit at the muzzle, it sits lower than I prefer. It will work just fine and is a much lower price than a taller version by another company.Read full review

Save Your Money, Do Better Research
Too Small, can barely SEE in Low Lightl! When it bottoms out, it is 3/4 from true,I know not to over torque, as it WILL Snap Off!, Had to leave High and Loose, Loctite it, and HOPE for the best. Had to also Round File down the intrusion of the Shank from inside the barrel. Made in ISRAEL, if that Matters to You. Works, BUT I Recommend YOU Save Your Money and Look for BETTER Elseware. Disappointing but works
Absolutely cannot install without using loctite on my mossberg 500. I think it might vary mossberg to mossberg since the factory bead sight doesnt have a certian diection it needs to be facing. Couldnt get away with blue loctite had to use red. Im young and this sight is just bright enough for me so if you have old eyes it may not be bright enough for you. Filing is a must!Read full review

The threads are too long and going to require a gunsmith to properly fit the sight. Very bright and looking forward to using one installed.

Exactly as described, nice size and I made it fit wiithout any alterations.
Others spoke of filing the threads to length, but I just used a leather punch to cut out a thin piece of rubber 1/8" in diameter. Then I punched a very small hole in the center , pushed the threads thru and tightened it down so it was lined up and tight against the barrel. Quick and Easy!Read full review
