Perfect drop-in replacement
It's a knob, how much can you write about it? Anyway, it works perfectly and the design has obviously been updated so that the silver knob part won't crack as easily now which is why I was replacing it in the first place.
To replace the item, remove the silver knob by pulling fairly hard(unless it is cracked and then it should be easy). Remove the black oval piece behind it with your fingers or a toothpick etc and you should be left with a white piece of plastic sticking out. Grab some pliers and pull the rest of the unit out (it may take some force but don't worry). After that, just take the new one and push the whole thing in.
I might buy two more to replace the other two knobs because I can see them starting to crack as well.Read full review

Disappointed to have to Replace Whole Unit
Disappointed to have to buy a complete unit rather than just the knob - which broke. Neff do not make a replacement knob so you have to buy the whoole unit. I used pliers to grip the shaft of the broken unit and simply pulled it out. The replacement just has to be lined up and pushed into place, so fitting is easy but don't expect Neff to offer any advice..
The e-bay supplier (Bartyspares) was great and I highly recommend them.Read full review

👍
Came quickly, easy to fit...just pulled the old one out with pliers after turning power off and pushing new one in. Reset clock and hey presto. Seemed quite a lot seeing as we only wanted a new knob, but a larger component and best price we could findRead full review

Works well as replacement for 173204
Thanks to those reviewers who described how to remove the old switch - massively helpful! Our switch melted when we were using our parents' oven and didn't realise we had to close the oven door when grilling. Incidentally, this is a quite astonishingly poor design, which unfortunately seems to be quite a characteristic of Neff appliances.
One thing to note - our U1661N1GB/09 oven theoretically required a 173204 switch, but this 188840 worked fine and seems generally rather cheaper than the 173204. They aren't identical, but the main difference is that the fulcrum point for the 188840 is dead-centre while the 173204 is slightly below centre. This means that you can't just swap over the silver knob, you have to change the whole switch mechanism, as sold here. Despite the difference the final appearance is identical and we are delighted with the end result!Read full review

Expensive as are all original parts.
Expensive as with all original parts, good quality and perfect fit so worth the cost. It would be great if there was an option to just purchase the oval silver knob without the black extension shaft, I only used the knob.Read full review

Genuine part
The only part I required was the plastic cap, I had to buy the whole switch to achieve this. This made it rather expensive but it did the job. If the cap could be sold separately it would be a better solution. There were cheaper switches on the market but the cap's looked different so I went for the genuine part.Read full review

Neff Oven Function Switch Knob
We have had our Neff oven for over 16 years and it haas served us well. However the function switch knob broke and rather than replace the whole unit I removed the knob from the new one and replaced it leaving me with a spare function switch if needed. Read full review

Good delivery & quality - hard to find instructions
Very quick delivery
Genuine part
However - it took me ages to find any advice on how to remove the old switch & replace. So a quick explanation included in the package would have been very usefulRead full review
