I've combed Europe and Asia, and this is the only truly durable mosquito killer I've found.

Having travelled often to India in the past, I have long hunted for a mosquito bat which is really suitable. Many of the Indian brand have a non-replaceable rechargeable battery which quickly fails (especially in winter when the device is put aside). They also have such a delicate triple-mesh that it only takes a bad swipe and the bat is history. Finally, the plastic is typically cheap. This bat meets my (rather high) expectations. Rather than a fine foil mesh, it literally has strings which are far more robust. It feels a little less powerful than some of its cheaper counterparts, but I would more than substitute power for durability. It's well made and uses AA batteries, so I don't have to worry about battery issues affecting its lifespan. It will cause smaller insects to crack and smoke, although it doesn't seem to have sufficient power to 'burst' them (it being most satisfying with a brand new mesh-type bat when the mosquito literally explodes with a pop and flash). Doesn't matter though - it has sufficient power to dispatch most things. It won't kill flies or wasps with a single hit, but that's okay - it will bring them to the ground nicely so that you can take vengeance upon your tormentor.Read full review

It's okay!

It definitely has a strong electric shock power and if you can catch a bug when it's just hanging out on a surface it will absolutely die, but the chances of you effectively getting one in mid air are nigh on impossible — this is more than likely due to the protective grid, which is obviously crucial, but equally it means flies are less likely to just drop out of the sky. Maybe the idea for the product is fundamentally flawed because you couldnt make this product in a way that's both safe and effective... But this probably does what it does about as well as any version could. (Also it makes a very high pitched noise when it's activated and my dog hates it so I can only use it when she's not in the house)Read full review

Quality fly killer. Ergonomic!

This is a sturdy well designed unit far better than the cheaper alternatives which I have experience of breaking. It delivers a powerful shock which instantly kills or disables most fly's and small moth's. I have not tried it on wasps and would not do so as they are intelligent and leave quietly if respected. I give it a four as I would prefer something with just a little more power but perhaps we are not allowed more power in this nanny state that we seem to be living in. It will stun a blowfly but seldom kills them outright so a second or third shock is often required but it works! Far better than splatting mess everywhere. Annoying smaller house flies it does very well. All in all a very useful product for the summer annoyances of pesky flies.
Buy it.

Good design and so easy to use.

This item was slightly more rugged that a previous, similar swatter I had. Being mainly made of plastic I don't know how long this one will last, but I've been happy with it so far. I get satisfaction zapping the clothes moths that haven't been caught in my traps. A quicker end for the pests too! Wouldn't want to be without it.Read full review

Having so much fun

This year was particularly bad for flies in our area (and I know it wasn't just me, as I ran into someone else at B&Q shopping for a safe option to kill flies without harming an indoor cat). Most fly sprays are dangerous to cats and the advice I got from the vet was lock the cat out of the room, spray, wait 30 minutes and then vacuum up every dead fly before letting the cat back in the room... not an easy task in a kitchen, so I bought fly paper, which kind of works, but works slowly. I needed something else and the Executioner fit the bill (perhaps one of the static blue light things would have been easier, but not as much fun!) I've had so much fun with it killing the flies, must be a sadistic streak in me. It is definitely effective. Came packaged well, batteries included, so it was instant to start to use and ever so much fun too. Kept me and the cat amused for hours and she would stalk any I managed to stun rather than kill.Read full review

It makes our previous zapper seem like a toy

Much as we don't like killing living creatures (and will always try and catch and release spiders, for instance) - we do not want to be bitten, stung, irritated or to find bugs in our food when camping or eating on a yacht. Our older, different model seemed to require holding one's finger on the button for ages to ensure success, whereas the Executioner does the job instantly. We bought ours after camping with some friends who have one and saw how far superior it was to our old 'cheapie' - so we ordered our own as soon as we returned home. It proved so impressive on our next trip. Most amazing was when we saw midges on the inside of the net mesh screens of our campervan. The Executioner did not even need to touch them before we heard the loud bang, bang, bang as three were despatched. Likewise, wasps don't stand a chance and we feel it has to be more human by killing so quickly.Read full review

Overall a very good product, I am very pleased with its effectiveness

This swatter is actually slightly smaller than you might think from the pictures, which I was pleased about as it makes it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. It has a solid feel to it and certainly packs a punch, despatching smaller insects with ease and instantly stunning larger flies and wasps.

It is quite disconcerting at first because it gives a loud 'Crack' when an insect hits the bars and gets a shock.

Because the contact bars are not protected by layers of mesh on both sides as some other zappers are, it makes it much more effective in making contact with the little blighters (insects, not kids. You aren't allowed to use it on kids!) and the insects do not get stuck behing any mesh so it is very easy to keep clean.

Good works well

Good product, takes a while to get the hang of using it as is more cumbersome than normal fly swat. Definitely works and appears really well made and sturdy, also comes with a guarantee

Modifications to the Executioner Insect Bug Fly Zapper

Standard energy from one of these is about 0.6 Joules. Voltage across grid is about 2.5 KV. Charge stored by internal 200nF capacitor is produced by an oscillator/inverter from a step up transormer driven by two NPN transistors in parallel (odd but no emitter biasing used but heck it's cheap). Output from the transformer secondary is rectified by 3 x 1N4007 diodes in series in a half wave rectifier arrangement. 3 diodes are used to ensure the inverse voltage is not higher than about 1KV across each one. (Cheap way to ensure this but again heck). Grid (the capacitor) is shorted via a 470K resistor on a metal barb when the switch is released. Voltage supply is 3V from two AA batteries.

Don't do this:-

Modification: (1). Replaced the 3V supply with an 18650 lithium cell loaded into a battery holder. This provides about 4V instead. Requires nibbling plastic away in the handle base to fit it and some more from the battery cover. (2) Replaced the 200nF storage cap (rated at just 1.2KV) with 2 x 220nF 1.6KV types in parallel giving 440nF of capacitance. Requires a rectangular hole to be cut in top part of the handle & an additional plastic box over the top to insulate it from hands. (3) Changed the base bias resistor feeding the two transistor bases of value 2.2 K to a 1.69K (just what I had in my resistor junk box). (4) Should have added an additional 1N4007 diode on the transformer secondary output becuase the generated volts are higher but not done this as yet. Should be done really, else the diode string is over volted.

Never test it without it being installed back in the handle cos' the short circuit barb won't be in circuit & real risk of electrocution without it. I received one heck of a belt off of it by not shorting out the cap for long enough.

Result is about 3.7KV across 440nF which is about 3 Joules. So these mods increase the energy stored by the unit by about 5 times. Yes this thing now generates 5 x as much energy. Fly's don't just crack when they're touched now, they vaporise in a flash. It's lethal. Don't do it.

This is good ...

I had a much used zapper with multiple wire layers but it would take several goes before a fly was killed. I tried this single layer one, purely on the basis of its advertisement and reviews and have just zapped my first fly with my first swipe! The electrical zap noise from the one hit suggests to me that this is a really powerful and possibly dangerous zapper. But if you want to eliminate a fly or insect with ease, this would seem to be a very good solution. I am throwing my old zapper out!Read full review

Expensive but good quality.

So far it's working great this summer. I'm hoping it lasts 3 years it will then be worth the money. It seems to be a lot more sturdy than the cheap pound-land one and man does it stop flies. Works great and been using it every few days over the summer. Great to get rid of the pesky flies. Bit expensive but the quality makes up for it.

Only reason it's 4 star instead of 5 is the price.
