A wonderful machine!
The product arrived brand new and in original packing a couple of days ahead of schedule. The 8 lbs of code included is of great quality.
First, you might need to do a dry burn ( no coffee) first to get rid of Measure plastic on the chafe catcher or roasting cylinder. If needed, put the cylinder back on the rotisserie and chafe pan in front, close and hit start and let it cycle all the way through its cycle and let it finish cool cycle. When it stops you can continue... Stuff is plenty cool to touch.
You'll want to roast 1/2 lb at a time. Measure out half of the bag and gently put into the cylinder. Put the cylinder back on the rotisserie and chafe pan in front, close the door. Set it to 1 lb and hit the '+' key until the time is maxed out at 20:30. Touch the p1 button, turn on the light and hit start. I put mine on top of the range under the hood so that when I get quick results with these fan when I need it. Don't turn the fan on yet. It will take a little more then 10 minutes before you reach "1st crack", when the coffe beans start making popping noise like popcorn. This will die down. There is actually a 2nd crack but you'll want to hit the "cool" button BEFORE 2nd crack. The book says that there expected time between the START of first crack and the beginning of second crack is 2min 10sec. So let it go for like 120 to 125 seconds after you hear first crack. Turn the fan on after you hear first crack. When your 120 s is over hit the cool button. It will cool for about 15 minutes and then stop. Congratulations! Your first batch is perfect!Read full review

Behmor repeated failure
Don't get me wrong. I like the little roaster. This is my second one and as far as roasting, it does a good job. So why the critical title? The smoke suppressor. An absolute failure. In my first roaster, I repaired it a number of times. Behmor knows this has been an ongoing problem, yet my new roaster has the smoke suppressor fail on the third batch of coffee. Sure, it takes about an hour to remove it and repair it, if you are a handy person. The most annoying feature is the "unattended" auto shut down. A minor 30 second distraction and your roast is ruined. Service? No one, I say again, no one will talk to you. All tech service is done by email, and they are not apologetic about it. Overall I like the machine as I have bought a second one. But I wish they would fix the smoke suppressor.Read full review

I like that I can roast 1 lb of beans I had no problem making a dark espresso roast
This is the only home coffee bean roaster that does 1 lb of greens beans. I paid was $368.00
The Hottop roaster starting at $1,100 it looks really nice but it only roast 9 oz
The Behmore 1600 plus does an excellent job for a 1/3 the price
I did an Espresso Roast the 1st time I used it and the aroma was amazing when it was cooling.
I used it on the top my stove to exhaust the smoke which some does come out. Although I'm very happy with it, ---It would nice if I more control over the timer with a longer roasting time. You can only add more time twice and that's just when it's starting the 2nd crack I needed more time to get to my Espresso Roast. I have to unplug it open the door to cool down fast so I can reset the timer to start roasting again, as soon as I see the bean color I want I let the machine go thru it's cool down cycle which take 13 minutes.
Over all I highly recommend it well worth the money.Read full review

Easy to use and produces great tasting coffee.
The Behmor 1600 is a convenient way to roast coffee beans. The only drawback is you have to stay with the machine while it is roasting. No set it and forget it as Ron Popiel might say. The last roaster I had was destroyed because I did not stay with it. After every roasting, it is necessary to clean the roaster. Chafe is an annoying byproduct of roasting and is sometimes difficult to remove. The coffee beans are easy to load and remove. There is an adequate variety of settings the operator can choose from, like the weight of the beans to be roasted, the optimal setting for the type of coffee you are roasting and a time increment button should you need to increase/decrease the time of the roast. Overall a great roaster!!Read full review

I was very confident on this machine before purchasing, but when i tried i fall in love
Hi!, this machine it´s a little complicated, but i strongly recommends to you READ MANUAL FIRTS PLEASE! ..when i was searching for a home/medium coffe especialist roaster, i´ve decided this machined based on reviews and lot of information on youtube/blogs,etc, when i received ,firts i did was reading manual( first need to do a Dry Burn to season gaskets), then roast an 1/4 lb green coffe from my parents farm, the FIRST result on this machine was delicious , i tried a City roast and the result very affordable, uniform heat , uniform beans roast, and the bottons are like they explain , just because i need to experiment more and more, e.g : drum speed , heat curve..but finally i need to say you : you´ll fall in love with this Very detailed operation machine..be careful , NONE ROASTERS MACHINE COULD BE ALONE WORKING AUTOMATIC., just because can ruin your roast or can cause a fire inside..Enjoy!

Not as good as before upgrade.
Before the upgrade to this unit, it worked great. My old unit took heavy use and lasted nearly 4 years.
The plus version requires you to watch over the entire roasting process. It has a built in feature that requires you to press a button mid way threw the roasting to continue or it sends an error message. Just what I didn’t need, something to waste my valuable time.Read full review

a definite learning curve
well, as a former Gene Cafe owner until the machine died, buying this unit was a bit like a step backwards for me. I am an avid roaster but couldn't justify spending double the amount for a new Gene. This one does not seem to easily roast anything past a full city without putting the machine into error mode and shutting the unit down. I tend to enjoy more of a French roast and it is impossible with this roaster. Most of my roasts are Cinnamon roast or city roasts because the temperature cannot go high enough to achieve much darker roasts. And, despite the machine advertising the ability to roast a pound, it really doesn't do well with anything over 12 ounces--so at about 40 minutes, start to finish with this machine, you don't get that much coffee.Read full review

One step beyond
The Behmor 1600 plus enables you to control many variables while roasting coffee. It's easy to use, while coffee roasting might take a long time to master.
It's a very clean device to use and in the light roasts haven't had any problem thanks to its smoke suppression system. It really is a device that can be used in the kitchen.Read full review

Very good roaster
This is a replacement for a Behmor that I've used several times a week for about 10 years. (roast times are getting too long). This new roaster is an improved version and it's a pleasure to use. The 8 lbs. included are good and appreciated.Read full review

Heaven on earth
I have been roasting coffee in Popcorn poppers for the last 5 years. This has been a dream to get a Behmor. it is everything I thought it would be - Some quirky safety stuff - but thanks to YouTube videos I was prepared and have had a wonderful time roasting nearly a pound at a time!Read full review
