FAQs - About Simple Delivery
How does Simple Delivery work?
We automatically select the appropriate postage options so you don’t have to waste time getting out the tape measure and scales, or worry about making a costly mistake. Your buyer will have the flexibility to choose either a standard or express delivery option at checkout.
1. After your item is sold, you’ll be provided with a printable label and printer-less QR code. For clothing items,* you’ll receive a Packlink label, and for all other eligible categories, you’ll be provided with a label from eBay.
2. Generate the label or QR code from your account, and follow the instructions to drop off your item at the nearest carrier location. All items with Simple Delivery will be tracked and fully covered.
Simple Delivery is available for eligible listings by private sellers on the eBay.co.uk site. Labels are only available for domestic deliveries within the UK.
*All items listed in clothing categories on ebay.co.uk, excluding categories such as accessories, hats, footwear, watches, bags and jewellery.
What will the transactions look like for the delivery costs?
For clothing categories:
When your buyer pays for delivery at checkout, the amount will be credited to and deducted from your account and paid to Packlink, the label provider. You'll receive a postage label and QR code to post the sold item. The label cost, covered by the buyer's payment, is included in your eBay sales earnings.
See Reconciling your eBay sales transactions for further information.
For all other eligible categories:
Your buyer will pay for delivery at checkout and you’ll receive a postage label and QR code to post the sold item. Delivery costs are paid to eBay.
Can I adjust the size and weight details of my item?
If we're unable to determine the size and weight of your item accurately, you'll be asked to specify these details when you list it. This ensures you receive a suitable postage label when your item sells. You may also choose to update the size and weight if you believe our estimate is incorrect. Just make sure to report accurate measurements to avoid additional charges.
How are transaction fees dealt with for the prepaid postage label provided?
There are no transaction fees applied to the delivery costs when using the prepaid Packlink delivery label that comes with Simple Delivery.
See Fees for private sellers for more details.
How is the label provided to me chosen?
We’ll take into account the buyer’s location, the item location, your distance to a convenient drop off point, the appropriate delivery service for the item you're posting, and whether the buyer has selected a standard or express delivery service at checkout, amongst a number of other factors.
How are delivery costs determined for my buyer?
When you create a listing, you'll see an estimated "starting from" delivery cost for standard home delivery. Buyers can choose between standard or express delivery, which have different prices. Delivery costs can also change based on the item's final sale price. Additionally, we may periodically provide promotional offers that discount or provide free delivery. For buyers purchasing multiple items from you, combined postage could be available. After the sale, you can check the delivery cost paid by the buyer in the Order Details, Postage Labels section in My eBay, your order confirmation, and the postage label invoice.

Protections and returns
How is my item covered?
Items are protected against loss or damage from the moment they are scanned into the carrier's delivery network until they are marked as delivered by the carrier. In the event that a buyer raises a claim for an issue that occurs during transit, you'll not be held responsible.
Does Simple Delivery have a cover limit for items during transit?
No, there is no cover limit within Simple Delivery for eligible items; they are fully protected for the amount they sold for on eBay.
To ensure this complete coverage:
- Use the prepaid label provided by eBay.
- For clothing categories where the label has been provided by Packlink, comply with the Packlink terms and conditions of carriage. For all other eligible categories and other eligible items in clothing categories, comply with the eBay delivery terms and conditions.
See 'What listings are eligible for Simple Delivery?' for more information.
What should happen in the event my item is lost or damaged during transit?
Your buyer should raise an “Item not received” or “Arrived damaged” claim as applicable. See our Help page for more information.
What happens if the buyer wants to return an item?
Should the buyer request a return, you may be responsible for refunding the buyer any outbound delivery costs for the label provided to you (including for express delivery), in addition to the item cost. See 'How to handle a return request as a seller' for more information.
How to post
When must I send my item?
You should aim to send your item within 2 business days to ensure that buyers receive their order quickly and we're able to estimate the delivery date accurately. You can select a maximum handling time of 3 business days. Provided you use the prepaid label and you send the item within your stated handling time, your seller performance standards and service metrics won’t be affected by late deliveries. See our Seller standards policy and Service metrics policy for more information.
How can I ensure my item is properly packaged?
After you’ve sold your item, it’s important to pack it securely, in the right type of packaging, to make sure it gets to your buyer in perfect condition. Here are some tips on packing your item:
- Choose a container that’s slightly larger than the item, so you can cushion it with packing material on all sides.
- Surround the item with bubble wrap, packing peanuts, foam, or paper (so there’s no room for things to move around).
- Use clear or brown packaging tape, eBay-branded tape, reinforced packing tape, or paper tape, which should be at least 2 inches wide.
- Don’t use masking tape, cellophane tape, cord, string, or twine.
- Tape the opening of the box and reinforce all seams and edges.
- Clearly label the package on a flat surface and include a return address.
- If you’re reusing a box, cover any previous labels and cross out any previous addresses with a black marker. You can also print a packing slip and include it in your package when you print your label.
- For aerosols, batteries, food items and fragrances, see additional information on packaging requirements.
Do I need a printer to use the label?
No, you'll be provided with a QR code that you can take to the carrier drop-off location to have the label printed for you. You’ll also be provided with a label you can print at home.
What carriers are available on Simple Delivery?
All postage labels will be from Royal Mail and Evri.
Where can I find my nearest drop off location?
Once you generate the label, a link be provided for the relevant carrier website where a map of locations can be found.
How can I print the packing slip?
After you generate the prepaid label, you can print a packing slip from the Postage labels page. You can also print a packing slip in My eBay or Seller Hub.
How can I track the status of the item?
You can track the status of your item in the View Order Details section of My eBay or Seller Hub.
Can I arrange for my item to be collected?
Collection is not currently available for Simple Delivery. If you would like your item collected, you should opt out of Simple Delivery when creating your listing.
Troubleshooting
What if I send my item after the stated handling time, or what if I don’t use the prepaid label?
Your seller performance standards and service metrics will not be protected for late deliveries due to posting after the handling time, or if you don’t use the prepaid label.
If you choose to purchase your own delivery label separately, you’ll have to cover the cost. If you would prefer to purchase your own label, you should opt your item out of the Simple Delivery experience at the point of listing. We do not reimburse the costs of using your own label. You’ll also be unable to benefit from any enhanced cover for loss or damage to the item during transit. Any claims due to loss or damage in transit will need to be addressed directly with the delivery service provider, from which you have purchased the label, for cover limits.
What happens if the item cannot be delivered to the buyer?
The carrier will make three delivery attempts, and if they're unable to deliver after the third attempt, the item will be returned to you.
What if the label provided is not appropriate for my item?
If your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, and you listed following our recommended size and weight for your item, you won't have to pay additional costs. If you provided the item's size and weight yourself, and these are not accurate, you'll need to take care of any additional costs.
What if I cannot post my item at my nearest drop off location, or the carrier does not accept my package?
For certain items in clothing categories posted using a Packlink label:
Items that don't comply with Packlink's terms and conditions of carriage may not be accepted nor protected during transit. To avoid any inconvenience, please refer to Packlink's terms and conditions (including their Packaging Guide) for further information.
For all other eligible categories and other eligible items in clothing categories:
Items that don't comply with the eBay delivery Terms and Conditions may not be accepted nor protected during transit. To avoid any inconvenience, make sure your items comply with the terms and conditions and prohibited and restricted items guidance.
If everything with your package is in order but you're still experiencing issues at the drop-off point or with the carrier, please visit our Help Hub page or get in touch with our customer service team.
I haven’t yet generated the prepaid label and one of the addresses is wrong. What can I do?
If you need to correct the sender address, you can do so by following the instructions provided in our editing process. In case the delivery address given by the buyer is incorrect, you have the ability to update the recipient's name, as well as the first and second lines of the address. Unfortunately, other address details can't be modified. If there's an error with any other part of the delivery address, the best course of action is to cancel the order and request that the buyer repurchase the item with the correct delivery information. See our Help page for more information.
I have already generated the prepaid label and one of the addresses is wrong. What can I do?
If the buyer’s address needs to be changed, please cancel the order and ask the buyer to repurchase the item. See our Help page for more information. If the sender address is incorrect, please reach out to our customer services team.
The buyer is contacting me regarding the delivery. What can I do?
Buyers can easily monitor their order's delivery status from their 'Purchase History' section, where they will find a clickable tracking number linked to the order. Find more information on our Help page.
