Black Friday is fast approaching - and shoppers are busy searching for bargains as they finish off their Christmas shopping. Below, we’ve pulled together some simple steps you can take to help your listings stand out from the crowd, as well as ways you can start the new year on the front foot.

Easy ways to optimise your listings
Titles, images and item specifics play a vital role in attracting potential buyers, building trust and helping your items to stand out in search. Follow these simple steps to help increase visibility and conversion - and in the case of images, reduce the risk of returns.
How to optimise your titles:
- Focus on the first four keywords to grab the customer's attention.
- Put the brand name as the first word - especially if you are selling in a category where brand is important, such as electronics or fashion.
- Use relevant keywords to improve your search rankings. Keywords can be size, colour, material and features that are specific to your product.
- Use all of the available 80 characters.
- Avoid the use of emojis, exclamation marks or special characters.

How to optimise your images:
- Use high-quality images that show your product from all angles.
- Capture any blemishes on the product, especially if it’s a preloved or refurbished item.
- Use a solid background and good lighting. We recently upgraded our background removal tool, to make it easier to showcase your item on a white background.
- Avoid using watermarks, logos or overlay text on any images, as this may prevent them from appearing in external search engines.
- Use a different image for each colour of that product.
- Remember you have 24 images to use, so use as many as you can to paint a complete picture of your product!
- Using videos can really help to bring a product to life, be it a 360 of a toaster or a catwalk for a dress.

How to maximise item specifics:
- Be sure to complete all of the available 'Required' & 'Required soon' item specifics.
- Filling in any relevant 'Recommended' item specifics can also help buyers to find your listings.
- Use accurate and relevant item specifics to help improve search rankings and visibility.
- Update item specifics regularly to keep your listings up-to-date and relevant. You can do this through Seller Hub > Listings > Active, where you can apply changes in bulk using the bulk edit tool in reports.
