What is eBay Assured Fit?
It’s important to us that buyers trust that parts and accessories on eBay will fit their vehicles as intended. That’s why we’ve introduced eBay Assured Fit, a programme designed to protect buyers and sellers from fitment issues.
The eBay Assured Fit programme helps sellers build trust with buyers by giving them the confidence to purchase parts and accessories on eBay. This programme applies to eligible items in the following eBay Motors’ Parts & Accessories categories:
- Car Parts & Accessories (6030)
- Motorcycle & Scooter Parts & Accessories (10063)
- Motorcycle Maintenance, Stands & Towing (25622)
- Car Tuning & Styling (107059)
- Motorcycle Tuning & Styling (96382)

Free return labels
In the unlikely event that a return is required as a result of a fitment issue, return postage will be paid for by eBay. Exclusions apply (see FAQ below).

How does eBay Assured Fit work?
Buyer searches for the right part
When a buyer searches for a part or accessory using their vehicle details, we’ll check the vehicle details against item compatibility information in your listing through eBay’s fitment feature.
When there’s a match, fit is confirmed with a green checkmark on the listing.
Buyer purchases an eligible part or accessory
When a buyer purchases an eligible part or accessory with the green checkmark, fit is assured, or the item is covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee, with free returns.
We’ll protect you for returns with fitment issues
If the item arrives and doesn’t fit the buyer’s vehicle, they can open a return request using the “Doesn’t fit my vehicle” return reason.
If the seller chooses to resolve it by accepting the return, the buyer will get a return label from eBay at no charge (exceptions may apply).*
*Free return labels are not available for:
- International items
- Items are shipped in multiple packages
- Items weighing more than 20kg
- Items in the ‘Wheels, Tyres & Parts’ category.
How to participate?
Benefitting from the eBay Assured Fit programme is easy. Just follow these steps:
Add compatibility information to your listings
To be eligible for the eBay Assured Fit programme, items must be listed in the applicable eBay Vehicle Parts & Accessories categories and have accurate compatibility information.
Sellers can select which items to include in the programme by completing the compatibility table.

Handle returns
A buyer opens a return under “Doesn’t fit my vehicle”:
(a) If an eBay return label is available:
- We’ll provide a free eBay label to the buyer if the return is auto accepted or if you manually choose to provide a free eBay label.
- If you’re supported by a developer partner integrated with the Post-Order API to handle return requests, your partner must use the Process Return Request method of the Post-Order API to provide a Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) number. The value of the decision field of that same request must be set to PROVIDE_RMA.
(b) If the item isn’t eligible for an eBay return label, you’ll be responsible for providing a way for the buyer to return the item.
FAQ
What items are eligible for eBay Assured Fit?
eBay Assured Fit will cover most parts and accessories for cars and motorcycles with more automotive products to be added in the future. Tyres and wheels are currently excluded from eBay Assured Fit. In order to receive eBay Assured Fit benefits, you must add compatibility information (also known as ‘fitment’) to your listings.

How do I participate in eBay Assured Fit?
All eligible items with the completed compatibility information are covered by eBay Assured Fit. The benefits of eBay Assured Fit may include lower return costs and more sales driven by an enhanced buyer experience.
If my items are eligible for eBay Assured Fit, is it required for all of them to be covered under eBay Assured Fit or do I have the flexibility to select specific items?
Items without the compatibility information are not covered by the guarantee. You have the flexibility to determine which listings have this information completed. By adding compatibility information (also known as ‘fitment’) into specific items, eBay Assured Fit will be applied to those specific items.
Is eBay Assured Fit free and accessible for all sellers?
Yes. It’s free and accessible for all sellers on eligible items.
In what situations will eBay pay for a return postage label?
We’ll pay for return postage when a return claim/reason is opened for “Doesn’t fit my vehicle” and an eBay label is available. There are some circumstances that an eBay label won't be available, which include:
- The return is international
- The item is oversized or a freight item (e.g. engine, bumper) - up to 20Kg
- The return is delivered in multiple packages
- The item is in the ‘Wheels, Tyres & Parts’ category
If a part or an accessory doesn’t meet the eligibility criteria for an eBay label, you’ll be responsible for providing a way for the buyer to return the item.*
How can I check if I used eBay’s Compatibility Feature to provide compatibility information in the listing?
If you’ve provided compatibility information in the listing, a compatibility table will show up under “Description.”
What vehicle information does eBay ask from buyers to confirm fitment?
For the Car parts category, buyers must provide full vehicle information for eBay to confirm fitment:
- Make
- Model
- Year
- Trim
- Engine
What happens if my part doesn’t have fitment data available?
Items that don’t have fitment data, universal parts and customised/remodelled parts, won’t be eligible for eBay Assured Fit. However, the items may be eligible for other seller protections we offer.
I don’t have a return policy. Do I need to change my return policy to receive eBay Assured Fit protections?
No, you don’t need to change your return policy. If a buyer opens a return because the item doesn’t fit their vehicle, you’ll need to resolve it even if you don’t offer returns.

Which carriers will eBay offer postage from?
Any time you use an eBay return postage label, eBay will automatically select the cheapest return option with our contracted carriers for your item.
What if eBay or the Buyer makes an error? Am I still protected?
Yes. Any time a buyer selects “Doesn’t fit my vehicle” as the return reason on eligible items, you will receive eBay Assured Fit protections.*
